Round Table “Political Prisoners in Modern Russia”

A few months ago, I was lucky to be able to assist with the translation of a round table hosted in February by the Moscow-based human rights organisation Memorial on the subject of political prisoners in Russia today. Boasting a number of individuals from across civil society and the opposition, as well as former political prisoners and members of the dissident movement. The translated transcript of the event should be a fascinating read for anyone versed or interested in the state of rule of law in Russia, outlining those actors and views at the forefront of the struggle for political prisoners’ recognition, release or review of their sentences, together with the challenges and divisions among those very actors, frustrating a consensual approach for dealing with a tragedy of Russia’s judicial system.
